Hey, Marvel
Here's an idea: stop putting out shit that pisses me the fuck off.

Oh, look! It's MJ bent in a back-killing position, contorted to show off tits AND ass, with a waist smaller than her neck! Har, har! Oop, don't forget the obedient little smile while she does Spidey's chores. Hilarious!

Hey, Marvel? That shit isn't funny. It isn't edgy or rebellious. Making women be on sexual display while engaged in domestic labor isn't new; it is, in fact, the same goddamn pressure women have had to face for-frickin-ever. Oh, and, guess what? Women shoved into uncomfortable positions that make them "sexy" to the viewer without allowing them any sexual pleasure - hell, any comfort - for themselves, is also not new. It's what we call the fashion industry. And advertising in general.

Hell, if we're talking about women being physically uncomfortable in order to provide sexual gratification for someone else, that's a good chunk of heterosexual relations.

In less teeth-gnashing news, Democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel has the guts to be a decent human being. "What this world needs is a lot more than what we presently have" is true - and it goes for people like him, too.

ETA: Karen Healey makes things better.

ARGH. That... no, I just can't be coherent about that one. I just can't.

Yay for Mike Gravel, though. Yay for politicians being decent. We do need more of that in the world.

Yeah, I mean, I think I have a pretty thick skin when it comes to comics cheesecake - I get annoyed, but I'm pretty much inured to the standard stuff. But this just ... argh, indeed.

Oh. My lord. I. Damn you Marvel! Sometimes I wonder what goes through the heads of people who okay stuff like that.

But yay for Mike Gravel. It's good to see someone who doesn't duck around the issue and also give a good answer.

Something along the lines of, "Hurr hurr this is hilarious!" I'd imagine. Either that, or continuous fapping noises.

Urgh. I think the tragic cherry on the woe cake here is MJ's "pearl necklace". If the demeaning sexual imagery wasn't enough for you, here's a horrible euphemism to go with it!

And I'd be happier about Mike Gravel if the information about his positions on other issues were less extreme. Supporting late-term abortion and legalizing marijuana are stances I just can't get behind.

*sigh* Okay, I'm dumb. D: What's the euphemism of a pearl necklace? I thought it was just a general part of MJ being the dressed-up housewife.

Tragic cherry on the woe cake, heh.

Ah. I already support late-term abortion, and legalizing marijuana ... well, I'm not exactly in favor, but I'm not strongly opposed, so it wouldn't keep me from voting for someone. But I feel your pain about "I'm glad you support that! But why do you support that?"

Er, pearl necklace is a slang term for if a guy ejaculates onto a girl's neck. It's a type of bukkake. ^^;; Why do I know these things?

Oh, I ... see. O_o Neck? Really? That seems kinda random, like, "Oooh, it's so sexy for me to see your ELBOW" kind of random.

I have to say, I'm impressed by the number of times the word 'fuck' turned up in response to that thing. :-P

<*sigh*> Unfortunately true. :-P

Stuff like that, it's hard to come up with anything else. :P

But look at how happy she looks! She's having a good time! Clearly!

Yes! Clearly! That is the picture of female subserviencehappiness!

I always get amusement - however tainted - out of seeing your unhappy fish icon, though. XD

I think to them, the real joke is claiming that MJ is a strong, independent female role who can support the superhero yet be her own person. Right. This is also probably why many reviews of the third movie complain MJ is relegated to being whiny and self-absorbed -- which I admit a part is due to being played by Kirsten Dunst, but that aside, mainly due to the fact that in this movie MJ is, you know, not all about Spidey.

Why do I feel the urge to growl "FANBOYS" and shake my fist? Must be the Hulk-Colbert pic.

I'd like to see Colbert take something like this on. Because, y'know, being a straight white guy doesn't keep him from seeing the problem in sexist BS, regardless of the crap some guys try to pull about their reactions being "natural."
