Read this.

Read it and think about how much hatred we've developed for the natural state of women's bodies. Question that hatred as radically as [info]naamah_darling does. Understand what true respect for women's bodies means, and accept nothing fucking less.

I read that, and found myself agreeing with a number of commenters who didn't realize it was a common phenomenon. Of all the physical hang ups I've had, that was never one of them. And the fact that there were women who feel the need to get cosmetic surgery? Honestly, it sickens me. But the entire idea of beauty standard or ideal in general sickens me, so... :/

Thank you for linking to that.

I join you in feeling sickened, about both the beauty standard, and the number of women it drives to undergo unnecessary surgery. :/

Thank you for linking to that. It IS important to remember, that pretty much everyone is going to feel that way about one part or another. It's reassuring, and uplifting. <3

I repost, and I'm just going to copy what you said, because I really like that too <3 <3

Yeah, it got me feeling angry and righteous, but in that good I've-got-lots-of-people-behind-me kind of way. I'm glad it was helpful for you too. ♥

When I was about 6-8 years old, I had an unfortunate accident in which a pot of boiling water got dumped into my lap. There were burns and a lot of discomfort.

So for a long time, I thought that was the reason I didn't look like "everyone else". But as I've gotten older, I figure a lot of it is also probably nature (in that "everyone else" is probably not the norm), and that's okay, too.

Thanks for the link.

First: ouch. >_<

Second, I really like the galleries that [info]naamah_darling linked, because they show the variation (and attractiveness!) of women's natural vulvas. I think they should be required viewing for people, even (especially?) young girls. Because children will explore their bodies, and come to their own conclusions; and, like what happened to you (and me and who-knows-how-many-others), they can be incorrect and cause unnecessary anxiety.

I had no idea that THAT was something women worried about so much. o_o But I suppose everything is up for criticism these days. Maybe I don't listen to the media as much as everyone else--my thoughts have NEVER defaulted to the opinion that I am grotesque or anything but entirely average.

I find the need to look like other people to be an absolutely ugly behavior with equally ugly results. Don't mess with what God made. Individuality and uniqueness are the sexiest things out there.

I'm glad that was your reaction, and I wish more women felt like you do. It really is pretty crazy, to think that something like a woman's genitals - which aren't really open for viewing or anything - are subject to this much scrutiny and criticism.

Individuality and uniqueness are the sexiest things out there.

Hell yeah.

While I can't speak about the general design of women's sexual organs I did find it interesting that she made a remark about women being uncomfortable about people seeing their hygiene products. I have cleaned public toilets for both men and women. I have had to clean their sani-sacks. It isn't a big deal unless they throw stuff all over the floor and then it is only annoying because it means more sweeping which means that people can't use the bathroom for a longer time. Blood is blood, no matter where it came from. I personally find the dried boogers that people, men and women, leave on the walls more disgusting.

Too bad more people don't have your attitude. Bodily waste isn't fun, but as long as we keep clean there's no need to be freakishly disgusted by them.
